Career Research, Exploration, and Awareness for Transition to Employment (CREATE)

The CREATE Program is a two-week program designed to provide high school students with vision loss with transition-based experiences in preparation for graduation from high school.

Program Overview

Students participate in a variety of Pre-Employment Transition Service activities and experiences that include, but are not limited to: team-building, interactive and informative workshops, career exploration, person-centered planning, technology support, independent living skills, and blindness skills. These initiatives are intended to support the development of the following skill sets that are applicable to the college environment:

  • Work-Based Learning Experiences
  • Job Exploration
  • Post-Secondary Education Counseling
  • Workplace Readiness
  • Self-Advocacy

Services Provided

Each year, the CREATE Program evolves to meet the growing needs of our high school students who aspire to attend college. To assess the students’ skills, students participate in facilitated person-centered activities, team meetings, workshops facilitated by professionals in various fields, social gatherings, 1:1 assessments, as well as small and large group activities to prepare students for what to expect as they transition from high school.

Eligibility Requirements

All high school students must be affiliated with the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired and must be referred by their CBVI Transition Counselor.
